I’ve finished French Milk which was OK. A travel journal + graphic-y novel of sorts about a girl and her mother, living in Paris for a month, eating croissants and drinking fresh milk. Now I’m on to Tom Holt’s ‘You don’t have to be evil to work here but it helps’. That’s a mouthful.

Medical stuff here, sorry.
I did an ascitic tap today!!!!!
(ok, I’ve exhausted my supply of exclamation marks for the week)
Yes. I poked a bloated tummy with a needle and drained fluid which had collected there (not in the tummy, but I’m too lazy to explain). Tiring job after a while though, because I was already tired and pulling that 20ml syringe… OK, won’t get into too much detail.
Oncall - Someone came in the casualty with status epilepticus. He was jerking nonstop, frothing and very blue in the face. His O2 sats was down to 60%. After 100% oxygen, suction, ativan, phenytoin, MgSO4 and a whole load of other drugs, he settled down and O2 sats went up. Fuh. No, I didn’t do all the work. Eric, the reg was there the whole time and I was the assisstant, preparing and pushing the drugs in.
Normal stuff otherwise.

Dave, my previous reg said he’d organize a party for me (us interns actually), end of this year, before we switch to another hospital. I can’t believe how fast the time flies… I mean, it felt like only yesterday that I was starting work, getting all grumpy with the xray doc, whooping over successful canulations etc. Now, I still don’t get along with the xray doc, I’m whooping over ascitic tap and doing A&E stuff and I still long for weekends. 5 months… been quite an experience.
Now, all I need to do is remember stuff. I have really short term memory…

Weave me the sunshine :)
Whenever I look at this, I think of Bag End. Wouldn’t it be nice if I can get a home like that. My SHO asked me what I do during weekends. I couldn’t get myself to say that I like wandering around, just looking at things, marvelling nature and taking pictures and dreaming of having a beautiful place where I can decorate and put up paintings. Bag End-ish place. Just too much to explain. “I just walk about Galway”
Cinemas? She asked.
No, I don’t go there. I don’t even know how it looks like inside, except from what I see on TV. I just would not like the atmosphere, what urgh and eeuw things lurk in the dark. I don’t want to be a part of that. Anyway, I can do all the movie watching in my room, with close friends and a mug of hot drink and wear pyjamas at the same time :) Sleepover :)
Back to Bag End. If I’m to have my own, I have to settle in one place. Not like now, when I have to move every 6 months or so. I guess it will be a long, long, long time to that dream. So, in the meantime, I’ll still wander about and create stuff in my head, on paper and canvases. See the world whenever I can. Get books for my own library and wonder when I’ll read them. I’d buy 5 and read one if I have time.
I can’t wait to get the books. Any day now…

1 x Illustrated Life
1 x Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy

(Oh, I added the smilies there. Easons are too professional for smilies)
It’s 2am and I’m still playing with my tablet.
Over and under the misty mountain cold,
Wee folks seek ancient gems and gold
pixies, nixies, dwarves alike
Scour the hills from morn till night
I’ve nearly forgotten this little piece of ‘poetry’ I did a long, long time ago. When fairies and rhyming were my number one passion. I bugged ibu to get me a very thick, empty book, one which I can write down ‘magic stuff’ for my sixth birthday. A diary, to be exact. In between the dark red covers, I would pen down thoughts and words which to me, felt like magic. Things like:
‘The team lead by Icedteamonster won the English premier league’,
‘My little brother is like a tree branch - he is skinny’,
‘l will give an antique watch for ibu’s birthday’ (an old metal thing I found among some junk),
‘Clues found on the kidnapping - a one-meter pink and white material’ (which was actually a 2.5cm partially melted pink and white candle - I still hadn’t a good grasp of maths).
I don’t really know where this is going. Just that I love reading and the gift of imagination is really great. OK, I need to sleep now. Kiss Tiger for me :Dhh
Neil Gaiman will be in Dublin!!!!! OMG! Signing books. Coraline. Graveyard book. etc. *hop around in excitement*
But… sob. I’m stuck here, waiting for final exams, surrounded by bugs and coughing and yuckycabbagey smell and patients (who are really helpful and nice, especially when you tell them that they’re helping us so much for our exams) and stupid HSE cutbacks and taxes on phones and being poor and getting thinner (because of being poor+no time to cook+no time to buy food).
NEIL!
Anyway. I am still tired but am too excited and it’s all a jumble. Had a kinda good day today with two cases presented and good constructive criticism. Really happy that the patients are helping so much by being a willing subject to all my prodding and nosy questions and such. I met a man who looks and speaks just like Prof C0rmican and he’s really the best and :) Felt like laughing. He offered a Rolo at the end of our meeting which is nice because I could do with something sweet for my brain but eek-y because: these hands had just been under his armpits to check for enlarged glands and not yet washed. The Rolo was washed and eaten. I’m not too picky.
Ah Neil.
Had another tutorial with Dr Pinkshirt :) I stayed back, even though I had a throbbing headache from not eating (I forgot and when I did remember, was too lazy to run off to get something). How good am I huh? heh. Actually, it’s just because it’s him teaching. Being Prof’s little pet and all… (and the best intern ever - apart from Tortilla).
I wonder if Neil Gaiman will read this. Keep writing his name here. Maybe he will.
NEIL GAIMAN.
Here, on 17th Feb in Chapters Bookstore.
Night then.
Are you reading this? (I meant Neil)
